Canada Graduate Research Scholarship - Master's program

The  (CGRS-M) is administered jointly by Canada’s three granting agencies:  the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC).  Selection and post-award administration are carried out at the university level under the guidance of the three agencies.

Application workshops and support

Attend our workshops to receive application advice, meet your UVic faculty coaches, and have your questions answered.  Registration is not required.  All welcome!  We strive to host inclusive, accessible workshops that enable all students to participate fully.  Please contact the Faculty of Graduate Studies with any accessibility needs prior to the workshop.  A recording of the workshop presentation will be posted here in early October.

 Equity initiatives

The initiative provides financial support to CGRS-M appilcants as part of the Tri-Agency commitment to supporting research by and with Indigenous peoples.  In order to be considered for this initiative, applicants are invited to self-identify according to the application instructions.

The Tri-Agencies are establishing new processes and options for affirmation of Indigenous citizenship and membership based on consultation with Indigenous advisory groups.  Please refer to the for more information.

The Tri-Agency Black Scholars initiative aims to strengthen equity, diversity, and inclusion in Canada's research culture by increasing support for Black Scholars. CGRS-M applicants who would like to be considered for funding under this initiative are invited to self-identify in their application.

Important information:  please read carefully

  1. You must meet the transcript requirements of the CGRS-M program
    • See section #5 Transcripts in the application instructions 
  2.  You must also meet the transcript requirements of the proposed host institution selected in your application
    • Applicants who list the 樱花影视 as their proposed host institution must meet the UVic transcript requirements listed below
    • Applicants who list more than one proposed host institution should consult the transcript requirements at each institution, and ensure their transcript package meets the strictest requirements

UVic transcript requirements

  • Transcripts for studies at UVic:  official UVic transcripts are preferred; however, unofficial UVic transcripts (also referred to as administrative transcripts) will be accepted.  Order an official transcript or download an administravtive transcript through your Online Tools.  Ensure that a UVic transcript legend is included.
  • Transcripts for studies at other institutions must be official.  Ensure that a transcript legend is included.
  • If your transcript includes transfer credit or exchange credit from another institution, the letter grade or score must be included (rather than a complete/incomplete or pass/fail designation).  If a letter grade or score isn't included, you will need an official transcript from the institution where you completed the transfer credit or exchange credit.
  • Applications with transcripts that do not meet the requirements may be deemed ineligible.

Scan all of your transcripts and legends together and upload to your application as a single pdf document.

  • The Research Portal (application portal) will close at the deadline.  No extensions are possible.
  • As the deadline approaches, delays or technical issues may occur in the Research Portal due to the high volume of users.  We strongly encourage applicants to submit their application well in advance of the deadline.
  • It is your responsibility to follow up with your references and ensure that your Reference Assessments are submitted well in advance of the deadline.
  • No changes or updates can be made to an application once it has been submitted.

Offers of awards will be made available in the Research Portal as of April 1st.  If you are offered an award, you will have 21 days from the date of offer to accept or decline.  You may accept only one CGRS-M offer from one institution.
