Tiny Founders named Distinguished Entrepreneurs of the Year
Andrew Wilkinson and Chris Sparling, co-founders of holding company Tiny (TSXV: TINY), have been named the UVic Peter B. Gustavson School of Business 2025 Distinguished Entrepreneur of the Year Award (DEYA) recipients.

Indigenous knowledge shapes sustainability project
A research team led by Gustavson researcher Matt Murphy secured a $2.5M grant to help integrate Indigenous knowledge into sustainability projects. The initiative, called the Balance Co-Lab, is an international collaboration of Indigenous governments, researchers and non-governmental organizations.
“This project is very critical to the empowerment and self-determination of Indigenous governments and peoples,” says Cloy-e-iis Judith Sayers, president of the Nuu-chah-nulth Tribal Council and a member of the project’s Council of Senior Advisors.

What can we learn from Major League Baseball and how we hire?
A study by Rick Cotton and co-author Wang Lan (Peking University), shows that hiring employees who return to a previous employer, known as boomerang hires, or those recruited from proven sources, such as certain competitors, called pipeline hires, can improve performance by reducing the challenges of job transitions.
Researcher receives CIHR Project Grant worth $2.1 million
Roy Suddaby and a mostly UVic team received $2.1 million for a five-year project titled Overcoming the Impact of Historical Trauma on Health Outcomes for Indigenous Populations: Quest Health.
