Tips for Success

One tip that I would offer new international students starting their program at UVic is... Take things one step at a time. The first few weeks can feel overwhelming, but every challenge is part of the learning experience. You’re not alone in this journey!

One of the best ways for international students to get connected during their time at UVic would be… Join student clubs, intercultural programs, or volunteer opportunities on campus. Getting involved is the best way to build friendships and feel part of the UVic community.

Student Success Tip: Take the first step—then you’re already halfway there.

Starting something new can feel uncertain, especially when you’re far from home and adjusting to a new culture and academic environment. But remember, progress begins with a single step — once you take that first step, you’ll realize you’ve already come a long way toward success and belonging at UVic.

About

Originally from South Korea, I first came to Canada as an international student—a journey that deeply shaped my personal and professional path. With academic backgrounds in Business and Global Public Policy, I am currently pursuing a Doctor of Business Administration in Global Project Management.

Over the past 15 years, I have worked in the areas of international education, immigration, and public policy, supporting foreign nationals and international students from diverse backgrounds in achieving their academic and career goals. Since becoming a Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant (RCIC) in 2016, I have been dedicated to guiding international learners and foreign nationals navigate immigration processes.

I am delighted to continue this work at the 樱花影视, where I can contribute to a welcoming and globally engaged campus community.

Fun fact

During the first year of my studies in Canada, I took a bus from Calgary to Québec, and the trip took 80 hours. That experience made me realize just how big Canada is.
