Lab TA Safety Acknowledgement

As a Lab TA, you are responsible for the safe operation of the laboratory equipment by students, and for emergency response in case of injury, fire, earthquake, etc. Failure to handle this equipment properly may lead to injury, or even fatal shock. 

Upon accepting your offer of employment as a Lab TA, you must provide written confirmation to eceadmin@uvic.ca that you have read and understand the five parts of the Safety Guidelines:

  2. Individual Response Procedures for Fires
  3. Individual Response Procedures for Earthquakes
  4. Laboratory Operation Guidelines
  5. Safety Regulations for Laboratory Instructors

TA Evaluations

Teaching Assistants (TA) who are tutors, lab instructors, or course TA’s would have their teaching performance evaluated by their students. You may proceed to the to access your evaluation results.

You need to enter your Netlink ID and password to log into the system. The system records all your evaluations so you may review current and past evaluations. Past evaluations only go back as far as Fall 2016 after paper evaluations were discontinued.

TA Mandatory Workshops and Policy

All new graduate students wishing to be employed as TA’s are required to attend up to 2 mandatory TA workshops in their first year of study, see TA mandatory workshops policy.

  • TA workshop registration: contact the TAC and log on to , then select Engineering TA Development.
  • A seminar designed to help graduate students become better designers and design teachers. This program is useful to be employed as lab TA’s for design courses such as ENGR 110, 120, ECE 299, 399, etc.

Annual progress report

Current graduate students are expected to present their supervisor with an annual report outlining the progress achieved during the past year and the work proposed for the coming year. The deadline for submitting the report to the supervisor is August 1. This report may be circulated to the supervisory committee.
