Diversity & inclusion supports
UVic is committed to fostering an inclusive campus. Our equity action plan guides us to promote a welcoming, respectful environment for all. There is a particular focus on underrepresented groups such as women, Indigenous peoples, racial minorities, LGBTQ+ individuals, and persons with disabilities.

Within the faculty
is an important national initiative led by and strongly endorsed by our faculty. The initiative aims to raise the percentage of newly licensed engineers who are women to 30 per cent by 2030.
Creating Community is a special evening event that welcomes women, trans and non-binary students who joined the faculty during the past year. It is hosted by Dean Mina Hoorfar. Students will receive an email about the event.
gives women and other students from underrepresented groups in STEM paid co-op opportunities. Small teams work with industry mentors to develop solutions that address community challenges.
(WECS), a student-led group, commits to supporting women in the Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science. Everybody is welcome to attend their events and meetings.

Equity and Human Rights is a resource for all UVic community members. They provide education, information, help and advice to build and support an inclusive campus.
The UVic Students’ Society has an extensive list of . Several of these support students who identify as belonging to underrepresented groups.
UVic provides accessibility resources through the Centre for Accessible Learning (CAL). They offer students with disabilities tailored support to ensure they can fully participate in the academic experience. This can include accommodations for exams, note-taking and physical accessibility within the department.
