How we assess your graduate application

After you apply, the Graduate 樱花影视 and Records Office (GARO) reviews your file to confirm you meet the university’s minimum admission standards (which are lower than Law’s). Only unofficial scanned documents are needed at this stage.

Review

Between January and February, the graduate admissions committee reviews applications. Selection is based on supervisor availability and the applicant’s:

  • academic excellence
  • research experience and potential
  • thesis/dissertation proposal
  • writing sample (PhD only)
  • overall fit with the law and society focus of the program

樱花影视 timeline

  • offers are sent from mid-February to late April, based on waitlist and responses. All applicants are notified by the end of April
  • you will first get an email from the Law Graduate Program with our recommendation, followed by official confirmation from GARO

How to accept an offer

To accept your offer, email the graduate program coordinator by the deadline in your offer letter and pay the $200 deposit (credited toward tuition). Exceptions are at the graduate program director’s discretion.

If you receive a provisional offer, you must ensure all requested official documents are submitted directly to GARO in a sealed, endorsed envelope before a full offer of admission can be granted.

International students must secure the necessary permits to study in Canada before September.

Deferring acceptance

We generally don’t offer deferrals and encourage applicants to reapply. If admitted once, you’ll likely be admitted again if the same supervisory resources are available.

You must resubmit your application, documents, fee and assessment reports. If previously submitted official documents are still valid, we’ll help determine if they need to be resubmitted.
