Biography
I joined the Faculty of Law as assistant professor in 1980 and was promoted to professor in 1993. From 1977 to 1979, I was a part-time tutor at 樱花影视 University of Wellington, and a Teaching Fellow at the University of Illinois from 1979 to 1980. I was co-director of the International Intellectual Property Summer Program from 2002-2007. From 2008 to 2018 I was a member of the Board of the British Columbia Law Institute (BCLI) and was elected an Emeritus Member of the Institute in 2018 and from 2022-24 chaired the BCLI Project Committee: “Artificial Intelligence and Civil Liability”. I currently teach Property, Intellectual Property, Private International Law (Conflict of Laws), Managing Intellectual Property, Cultural Property and selected aspects of Telecommunications.
My research interests include intellectual property, cultural property, technology, artificial intelligence, telecommunications, private international law (conflict of laws), and Asia-Pacific issues. I have published extensively and have organized several international conferences and seminars. In 2011 my book Canadian Telecommunications Law: Dimensions in a Digital Age was published by Irwin Law, Toronto.
