Inbound exchange
If you're interested in coming to UVic Law on exchange and you are from one of our partner institutions, reach out to our academic services team.
Applying for exchange
- Apply through your home university.
- If selected, your university will nominate you to UVic Law.
- Submit a completed UVic Law inbound exchange application with attachments by April 30.
- We will confirm your acceptance and provide registration details.
Academic terms
The UVic winter session consists of fall and spring terms.
- Fall term: Beginning of September – end of December
- Spring term: Beginning of January – end of April
Each term has 13 weeks of classes, followed by an exam period. Exam formats include short duration in-person or longer take-home exams and cannot be changed. Do not purchase your return flight until you know your full exam schedule.
Course information
Use the UVic Academic Calendar to choose courses—exchange students will take 300-level courses. Course descriptions and schedules for the following academic year are usually available in mid-May.
We will try to match your course choices, but some may be full or have prerequisites. It is recommended to have alternate course choices preselected.
You can add or drop courses during the first 8 days of term. Send any changes to the academic services team, as exchange students can’t register directly.
Course credits
Courses are measured in units, usually ranging from 1.0 to 2.0.
- 1.0 units = 2 class hours per week
- 1.5 units = 3 class hours per week
- 2.0 units = 4 class hours per week
One hour of class time requires approximately 1-2 hours of study or reading per week.
Requirements
Full-time study requires 7 to 8.5 units per term. Check with your home university on your minimum course load required and to ensure your course choices are approved.
Housing
If you are interested in on-campus housing, you must apply through Residence Services by May 15 for the fall term and October 15 for the spring term.
Residence Services also offers off-campus housing listings.
