Lansdowne Scholar in Indigenizing Music Education

Dr. Anita Prest has been appointed as the Lansdowne Scholar in Decolonizing Music Education for a three-year term. This prestigious appointment recognizes Dr. Prest’s exceptional scholarly contributions and her deep commitment to community-engaged research in the field of music education.

Led by Dr. Onowa McIvor, is an Indigenous-led and governed national partnership of scholars, community leaders, educators, and allies working at the heart of Indigenous language revitalization (ILR) in Canada — formed to engage in positive action through collaborative research.

Technology Integration & Evaluation Lab

The Technology Integration and Evaluation (TIE) Research Lab is a Canadian Foundation for Innovation-funded research laboratory whose purpose is to strengthen research excellence regarding the appropriate use of networked and technology‐mediated communication, learning, and motivation across educational, professional, and health sectors.

The TIE lab provides state‐of‐the‐art infrastructure for systematically researching optimal learning conditions, tools, processes and products.

Research project: Artistic approaches to anti-racism

A collaborative research project between several faculty members and graduate students in art education, ' is an anti­-racism and anti­-oppression ­focused artist-­in­-residence program.

This research aims to test new strategies, grounded in contemporary artistic practices and gallery­-based education, for promoting anti­-racism, anti-oppression, and transformative action on university campuses.

Paving the way for Mohawk language revitalization

Tahohtharátye Joe Brant, a Kanyen’kéha (Mohawk language) advanced-proficiency speaker and language activist, is the first student to have completed a PhD in Indigenous Language Revitalization at UVic.

Values-based language learning

Lisa Crowshoe, an educator and Niitsi’powahsin (Blackfoot language) activist, is the second student to have completed her PhD in Indigenous Language Revitalization at UVic. Her research explores a method for Blackfoot youth to improve their well-being while learning values-based Niitsi’powahsin.
