Business Law Clinic (BLC)

The Business Law Clinic is run by upper-year UVic Law students interested in corporate law and supporting B.C. entrepreneurs with their business goals.

The BLC course (LAW 349) lets students build legal skills and learn a lawyer’s role in business transactions. They gain experience in interviewing, problem-solving, research, analysis and ethics in a real-world setting.

Clinical director

A corporate lawyer and management consultant, Michael Litchfield, teaches LAW 349 and is the director of the Business Law Clinic program. He has worked at a national firm, founded his own law practice and now leads Thinklab Consulting Inc., advising clients on strategy and project management across various industries.

Our services

The BLC provides free-of-charge legal information on matters that include:

  • incorporation
  • financing
  • charitable registration
  • intellectual property protection
  • shareholder agreements
  • franchise agreements
  • partnership agreements
  • contracts
  • business liability
  • employment law
  • government regulation
  • taxation

Note: BLC students are not lawyers and can’t give legal advice. They provide information on business law related to planning and operations. The clinic does not cover family, administrative, criminal law or litigation.

Become a client
