Bachelor of Education - Elementary Post-Degree Professional Program

If you already have an undergraduate degree and want to become an elementary school teacher, you've come to the right place! This 16-month post-degree professional program will prepare you for a career full of purpose and impact, guiding and providing an enriching environment to support the development of young learners. 

Beginning in September 2026, students in this program will attend the new John Horgan campus in Langford (Greater 樱花影视 area) or College of the Rockies in Cranbrook. 

Build your teaching practice

This program will support you in transforming your existing knowledge into a confident teaching practice that is all your own. 

In this program, you'll gain foundational knowledge about elementary learning environments & the role of elementary educators.

Through hands-on learning, you'll come away with a strong understanding of how to effectively lead elementary classrooms. 

Nurture the next generation

Elementary classrooms should be a safe, supportive space where children can grow into kind, capable individuals. This program prepares you to create a learning environment that helps young students navigate an ever-changing world.

Through culturally responsive teaching and thoughtful guidance, you’ll build a foundation of trust, helping students develop the confidence and emotional strength to thrive—both in the classroom and beyond.

Beginning in September 2026, experience Langford’s vibrant and growing Goldstream Village as the backdrop to your education at UVic’s new John Horgan Campus 

You’ll benefit from enhanced connections between our university-based teacher preparation and local school district practice, offering you meaningful field experiences, professional learning and engagement in a dynamic community-centered environment.  

Field experience

Get immersed in real classroom environments through meaningful field experiences. From full-day classroom observation in local schools to hands-on teaching opportunities under the guidance of mentors and field advisers, you'll have time to explore and develop your personal approach to teaching.

Frequently Asked Questions

The program (including both English and French cohorts) will take place at the new John Horgan campus beginning in September 2026.  

The John Horgan campus is UVic’s new post-secondary site in partnership with Royal Roads University and Camosun College. 

The campus is located in the heart of Langford, BC’s vibrant Goldstream Village and in proximity to UVic’s Gordon Head Campus and downtown 樱花影视. As one of the fastest growing cities in Canada, Langford is home to more than 50,000 residents and boasts a thriving downtown community.  

The five-storey building includes flexible classrooms, study spaces, library services, an Indigenous centre (a designated space for Indigenous students, to gather, cook and connect) and an innovation and startup hub designed to host student mentorship opportunities and community events as well as  bike storage, showers, elevators and gender-neutral washrooms. 

In alignment with UVic’s commitment to sustainability, the building holds a LEED gold certification and zero-carbon building designation.  

This move enhances connections between university-based teacher preparation and local school district practice, offering teacher candidates meaningful field experiences in a dynamic, community-centered setting. The new campus—surrounded by cafes, restaurants, shops, a public library and other post-secondary programs—will provide an inspiring environment for collaborative professional learning and engagement. 

Beginning in September 2026, all program coursework excluding practicum will be facilitated in-person from the John Horgan campus for both English and French cohorts.
