Juris Doctor & Master of Public Administration (JD & MPA)
In this highly specialized double degree program, you’ll study both law and public administration, complete a thesis and gain practical experience through public administration work terms. When you graduate, you’ll be qualified to practice law in every province except Quebec and have specialized training in public administration.
Eligibility
- a maximum of 5 students may be admitted each year
- students enrolled in the JD/JID program are not eligible to enroll in the JD & MPA program
- admission to the double degree program is jointly determined by the Faculty of Law and the School of Public Administration
- if you're accepted to one school, you'll be notified soon after about your admission status in the double degree program
- students begin their JD & MPA double degree with a full first-year law curriculum, followed in the second year by core MPA courses (with MPA priority and optional concurrent law classes where scheduling allows) before completing the remaining law and public administration requirements over the next 2 years
How to apply
- take the Law School 樱花影视 Test (LSAT)
- take the —optional for the MPA program
- students must apply separately and be accepted into both the Faculty of Law's JD program and the School of Public Administration's MPA co-op/thesis option (on-campus)
- clearly state on both applications that you’re applying for the double degree program
Tuition
JD & MPA students must pay full MPA tuition, assessed as program-wide installments, and also pay applicable Law tuition when enrolled in law courses.
Law co-op
Students in the JD & MPA double degree program are not eligible for the Law Co‑op Program and, if they were admitted to Law Co‑op in first year, must withdraw; instead, they must complete the mandatory work-term requirements specified by the School of Public Administration.
