Software

Our labs are designed to support teaching and learning for all UVic students, instructors, and staff. You can always find Microsoft Office, various web browsers, and common utilities on our lab computers. We do refresh the list of software applications on all lab computers every semester based on booking requests. Some software applications may be removed from the labs if there are no course requirements for it.

There are some spaces with specialty software installed because of limited licenses or requests by instructors for coursework. Every lab page includes a full list of currently installed software.

Software requests for bookings

Instructors and staff can make software requests during the booking process. We encourage you to include all software required for your course curriculum for your booking. For more information about software requests, see our using the teaching labs page.

Versions and security updates

We select our lab software based on version licenses and product support life cycle. Our primary goal is to provide a safe and stable computing experience for users, so we apply security updates and software upgrades regularly. Because of this we can’t guarantee that lab software won’t change over the course of a semester.

Other labs on campus

Looking for specialty equipment or software we don’t have? Several academic departments run computer labs for students registered in their programs. Check out the list on our home page or contact your department office for more information.

Support

If you have questions about our lab equipment, software, or spaces, you can visit any support desk location. Each support desk is open during operational hours with knowledgeable staff ready to help.

You can also contact us for help with any questions about UVic technology, services, or accounts.
