Collective agreements
UVic has 5 unionized employee groups representing over 95 per cent (%) of our total employees. The remaining employees include union-exempt and administrative support staff, faculty-excluded, management-excluded, and executive employees.
Members of unionized employee groups are responsible for familiarizing themselves with their relevant Collective Agreement as it pertains to their workplace expectations and entitlements.
HR Consultants (HRCs) are experts on interpreting and applying various Collective Agreements and can provide advice and support to managers and employees as needed.
Each unionized employee group has their own website with union-specific information.

CUPE 4163 employees belong to one of the three components below:
Component 1:
- Teaching assistants (academic assistant, computer lab assistant, lab instructor, research assistant, scientific assistant, specialist instruction position)
- Non-student TAs
Component 2:
- Cultural assistant (CA)
- Chief cultural assistant (CCA)
- Second language teachers (regular sessional and term sessional)
- Residence Life student staff
Component 3:
- Sessional lecturer (continuing and term)
- Music performance instructor (continuing and term)
