Union fees & dues authorization

The university is required to obtain written authorization from newly hired employees to make payroll deductions for union dues. The BC Labour Relations Code and the BC Employment Standards Act outlines this obligation. It is a condition for employment for employees represented by a staff union to sign the union dues authorization forms unless they fall into a very narrow religious exemption. 

The dues authorization form is included in the onboarding package on the UVic Careers portal. Please ensure new employees complete the Electronic Union Dues Authorization Form as part of their onboarding process.

Managers: if recruitment takes place outside of UVic Careers, please download the appropriate Union Fees & Dues Authorization form and ensure new employees have an opportunity to review before signing. The forms are kept in the departmental employee file. Please do not send them to Payroll.

Dues: 1.79 per cent of gross earnings each bi-monthly pay period

Dues: 1.5 per cent of gross earnings each bi-monthly pay period

CUPE 4163

Initiation fee: N/A

Dues: 2 per cent of gross earnings each bi-monthly pay period

Social Justice Fund deductions of $1.00 from each CUPE 4163 member on November 30 and March 31 (ongoing)
